HIV testing at Auckland International Cultural Festival 2018

Not knowing if you have HIV or not can be stressful. HIV is most dangerous to people’s health and wellbeing when you don’t know if you have it.

The African community is the second largest group affected by HIV in New Zealand. Pamoja works to raise awareness, support, empower and inform people to keep safe and healthy.

Encouraging people to test for HIV is an important aspect of Pamoja’s and the New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s work. The Foundation’s strategy to end all new HIV transmissions places a high importance on early HIV testing in communities most at risk.

By collaborating at significant events such as the Auckland International Cultural Festival 2018, we hope to work together with communities in providing culturally appropriate support and services.

The Pamoja team says, “Testing for HIV is easy and quick at the Pamoja pop-up testing service at the cultural festival.  We hope to encourage people from our communities to take this important step for their health.”
